BJP Announces Candidates for Nandigram and Rejinagar Bypolls

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced its candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly by-elections in Nandigram and Rejinagar.

Hasirani Rath has been selected to contest from Nandigram. She is the mother of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari who was killed earlier this year. The killing is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

For Rejinagar, the BJP has named Shakharav Sarkar, a former Murshidabad BJP president and party leader. The two by-elections are scheduled for October 6, with counting and results due on October 9.

The BJP's nominations come amid a multi-cornered contest, with candidates already announced by other political groups. The nomination process closes on September 16.
