Uttarakhand Monsoon Fury: 8 Dead as Landslides, Flash Floods and Land Subsidence Hit State

At least eight people have died in Uttarakhand in the past 24 hours as relentless monsoon rain triggered landslides, house collapses and flash floods across several districts. The heavy rain has also intensified land subsidence and soil erosion in Rudraprayag, damaging homes, roads, cattle sheds, toilets and farmland.

Five deaths reported in Almora

Five people were reported dead in two rain-related incidents in Almora. Two Nepali labourers were buried after debris from a hillside brought down a tin shed wall, while three others died after mud and rubble crashed into a house in Vadyura village. Rescue teams continued operations amid unstable slopes and blocked roads.

Flash-flood conditions in Dehradun

In Dehradun, swollen seasonal streams created flood-like conditions in Herbertpur and Vikasnagar. Police and residents evacuated people from waterlogged homes, with tractors used to rescue those stranded. In Premnagar, a Hyundai Creta was swept away by a powerful rain-fed current; one woman was rescued injured and the bodies of two others were recovered.

Land subsidence raises alarm in Rudraprayag

In Kimana-Dankot village of Rudraprayag's Basukedar tehsil, persistent land subsidence and soil erosion have cracked houses, damaged agricultural fields and affected essential infrastructure. Sections of the Jakhali-Bhiri motor road have been damaged, while drinking-water pipelines have also broken at several points.

Authorities have intensified surveillance and positioned SDRF teams at vulnerable locations. Residents near rivers, seasonal drains and unstable slopes have been urged to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel and follow evacuation instructions when issued. The administration is assessing damage and working to restore roads and essential services.
