Abhishek Banerjee’s PA Sumit Roy Gets 8 Days’ Police Custody in Salboni Land Graft Case

A Medinipur district court has granted eight days of police custody to Sumit Roy, personal assistant to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, in connection with the alleged Salboni land graft case.

Roy was arrested by the West Bengal CID after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea and lifted the interim protection that had prevented his arrest. The case concerns alleged fraudulent transactions involving government land in Salboni, West Midnapore.

Why Sumit Roy was arrested

The investigating agency has alleged that Roy did not fully cooperate with the probe and has sought custodial interrogation to examine the alleged land transactions and the financial trail. Earlier court proceedings also referred to disputed bank transactions and alleged deposits of large sums of money.

Court proceedings

The latest court order allows the investigating agency to keep Roy in police custody for eight days for questioning. The allegations remain part of an ongoing investigation and are not a finding of guilt.

The case is being investigated by the West Bengal CID, while further proceedings are expected before the Medinipur court.
