Election Commission Seeks Response from Kalighat Camp, Mamata Banerjee by September 16

The Election Commission has sought a response from the Kalighat camp led by Mamata Banerjee in the ongoing dispute over the Trinamool Congress's organisational control, party name and election symbol, according to the report .

The development comes ahead of the September 16 deadline for filing nominations for the October 6 bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar. The Commission has been hearing competing claims from the Mamata Banerjee-led camp and the faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee.

The two sides appeared before the poll panel in New Delhi on September 12. The Commission subsequently sought additional documents from the Ritabrata-led faction, while the Mamata camp also presented its case.

The dispute centres on which faction should be recognised as the legitimate Trinamool Congress and retain the party's name and the 'Jora Phool' election symbol. The Commission's response before the nomination deadline could have a direct bearing on the upcoming bypoll process.

The matter remains under consideration by the Election Commission, and the competing claims are yet to receive a final determination.
