Liquor Prices Set to Rise in West Bengal Ahead of Durga Puja, New Rates From October 1

Liquor prices are set to rise in West Bengal ahead of Durga Puja, with a new pricing structure for country liquor, foreign liquor and beer scheduled to take effect from October 1. The exact rate of the increase has not yet been announced.

According to a report by Sangbad Pratidin, the West Bengal State Beverages Corporation Limited has informed stakeholders that new liquor prices will come into effect from October 1. Products whose prices remain unchanged will also have to be registered under the new process.

New pricing structure for liquor and beer

The proposed revision covers country liquor, foreign liquor and beer. The move is aimed primarily at increasing state revenue, while the detailed extent of the price hike is still awaited.

A meeting was held at the headquarters of the West Bengal State Beverages Corporation Limited on September 3, where manufacturers and other companies discussed the expression of interest issued for the supply of liquor and beer.

Durga Puja dry day also in focus

The price revision comes amid preparations for Durga Puja, when liquor demand traditionally rises. The state government has also announced that liquor shops will remain closed on Mahashtami, and liquor will not be served at bars that day.

The new prices are expected to be implemented from October 1, while the final rate structure is awaited.
